Beyond Veneers and Cosmetic Dentistry - No Drilling, No Surgery
Patients with uneven bites have a misalignment with the TMJ or temporomandibular joints. Uneven bites cause the patient to look older and feel older. The jaw joints need to function in harmony with the bite in order for the muscles, tendons, bones and nerves to feel comfortable. When the uneven bite is properly corrected, the patient benefits mentally physically and cosmetically. Uneven bite treatment by other dentists is typically a bite adjustment procedure (grinding the biting surfaces.) Too often, when the bite is adjusted; the height of the bite is reduced which makes a misaligned jaw position worse. The more extensive the bite adjustment, (also called equilibrations) the more the height of the bite is lowered and the more the bite is lowered the faster the patient ages.
The misaligned jaw symptoms are, headaches, premature aging, neck pain, sleep problems and a collapsed face with corresponding jaw problems. Treatment options for a misaligned jaw have been highly invasive, including jaw surgery, porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns. However, treatment is easier than ever with the development of VENLAY® Restorations and JawTrac®.
This patient was told by two prosthodontists that they could not help him because the jaw misalignment was too severe. He opted to fly to Santa Monica for jaw alignment treatment by Dr. Sam Muslin with his proprietary Face Lift Dentistry® method. He literally got a face-lift without surgery.
He was told he needed jaw surgery like so many other patients. But, the results he received with the Face Lift Dentistry® Method saved him a lot of pain, surgical risks, hospitalization and years of braces. Results as remarkable as you see in the photo below were achieved without the risk of traditional treatment. The magic of this treatment is to achieve jaw alignment without surgery and get a normal shape to his face.
Almost every person has a jaw out of alignment problem. For some, the alignment problem is minor in the beginning and gets worse over time. People are living longer than ever and want maximum health but rarely understand how much a jaw out of alignment can affect sleep, digestion, speaking ability, energy level and alertness.
The critical component is longevity. Many 60-year-old patients that don’t think they are old, yet they have a jaw out of alignment which makes them look old. In contrast, 20-year-old patients want to live their lives to the maximum and don’t want their appearance and confidence to be hampered by small looking chins, overbites, under bites and upper teeth that you cannot see. Patients want Anti-Aging Dentistry the right way rather than making a mistake getting treatment by a local dentist.
This patient told the story about how he gets compliments on his smile that “makes my day”. He is happier, smiles more often and has boosted self-esteem. The Dental Face Lift® is a powerful solution to optimum health care.
All of these problems are now more treatable than ever. Healthy teeth no longer need to be grinded down for porcelain crowns. JawTrac® makes locating the optimized jaw position for the patient more predictable than ever. Once located and tested, the bite can be “optimized” with the Face Lift Dentistry® method.
Older people loose facial height. They no longer have the facial shape of a younger person. The face of a typical older person is short and round with a sinking chin position that gets worse with time. It is not their fault, it is because we are living decades longer that we did just 30 years ago.
Life expectancy has increased and we no longer have to experience the effects of aging for the rest of our lives. The misaligned jaw and lost facial height is reversible. This is the ultimate anti-aging dentistry.
He received a face-lift without surgery and without the risks of surgery. His treatment required no pain medication, much less risk, was faster and more predictable.
Some people look much older than others their same age because they have an uneven bite, misaligned jaw and generally an overbite. These patients suffer from the aging process more than others and the treatment can reverse the aging process without filing down your healthy teeth. By saving your natural teeth the treatment is much less painful, quicker and has less risk.
The best way to correct an uneven bite is with the Dental Face Lift® because we are locating the “optimized” jaw position using JawTrac®. This is a highly predictable method that locates the best jaw position for the patient from the cosmetic perspective and the functional prospective. The uneven bite creates a face-lift because the chin position and the patients posture improve.
Aligning the teeth to correct overbites, underbites and jaw alignment is one of the most complex challenges for the bite reconstruction dentist. It is important to understand the importance of the jaw position and to have the ability to develop this position before treatment to the teeth is started. The method that Dr. Sam Muslin developed was Face Lift Dentistry®.
We look older because we have lost space for our tongues. We don’t sleep as well and we don’t speak clearly. We wake up tired and without energy and enthusiasm and have not idea that the lost tongue space with a misaligned jaw is accelerating the aging process. As our bites wear down, there is less room for our tongues and that causes sleep problems, speaking problems and increases the speed of the aging process.
I would rather get on a plane to see Dr. Muslin for the right treatment than make another mistake with a local dentist only to have to do the treatment all over again.
